Swimming Pool Sand Filter Service

Your swimming pool sand filter is a vital part of your pool, it ensures the pool water always remains crystal clear. At JB Elite we can carry out repairs and servicing on both domestics and commercial sand filters.

If not regularly serviced, the sand inside your filter will start sticking together making filtration more and more difficult. As this happens the pool will become more and more cloudy as the water is not being filtered as efficiently. This also increases the pressure within the system which may end up causing damage to your pump and pipework.

During a filter service we remove and replace the sand currently in the filter with new sand and we also check the components of the filter to ensure that it does not breakdown in the future.

We have developed and built custom sand extraction units to speed up the replacement of filter media in both domestic and commercial sand filters. Using our custom-built sand extraction units we can remove the sand from your filter with incredible speed and an absolute minimum of mess drastically speeding up the time it takes to replace the filter media.

On average we can service a domestic sand filter within 1.5 hours and a 5-tonne commercial sand filter in one day. This includes removal of filter media, cleaning of the filter, inspection of the filter including seals and laterals, adding new replacement filter media and testing and commissioning of the filter.

We would recommend that you have your sand filter serviced every 3 years to prevent any potential issues from arriving.

We can also carry out filter services for commercial pools and are a trusted company by multiple hotels, schools as well as sites such as Sea Life and Legoland.

Commercial filters follow the same principle as domestic ones but are much bigger and require a lot more sand or media. This means that the service on a commercial filter can sometimes take more than a single day and can often require multiple days spent on site by our whole team of engineers.

An efficient filtration system is an absolute must for all commercial sites to ensure clear water as well as the safety of all patrons and users of the Swimming Pool.

Regular Filter services will increase the filter’s lifespan and helps prevent problems that may end up forcing you to replace the whole filter in itself.

AFM Dryden Aqua

What is AFM

AFM® is an inert, amorphous aluminosilicate (glass) manufactured by up-cycling post-consumer green and brown glass bottles.

AFM®Activated Filter Media is verified to at least double the performance of sand filters without the need for additional investments in infrastructure. AFM® is used for swimming pools, aquaria and aquaculture as well as water treatment applications – for treatment of various sources of water such as ground water, surface water, seawater and waste water.

Why Switch to AFM Filter Media

Producing crystal clear water, AFM® Activated Filter is the best performing filter media on the market with a certified 1-micron filtration rate which will remove about 50% more organic substances from the water than sand and other glass filter media.

AFM® is a direct replacement for sand, doubling the performance of sand filters without the need of additional investments in infrastructure. AFM® resists biofouling, bio coagulation and transient wormhole channelling of unfiltered water and never needs to be recharged or replaced

AFM® is a highly engineered product manufactured from a specific glass type, processed to obtain the optimum particle size and shape. It is then exposed to a 3-step activation process to increase its surface area by up to 300 times for superior mechanical and electro-static filtration performance.

The activated surface of AFM® is self-sterilising which prevents bacteria mud-balling, coagulation, and channelling of unfiltered water through the filter bed. Activation increases the surface area by up to 300 times for catalysis and adsorption reactions. Similar to activated carbon, the surface nanostructure adsorbs pollutants from the water but unlike carbon, AFM® is recharged by just back-washing with water.

Key Benefits of AFM filter media:
• Crystal clear water.
• Lower chlorine consumption.
• No chlorine smell and up to 50% less THMs.
• The risk of infections by bacteria and parasites such as Legionella, Pseudomonas and Cryptosporidium is reduced to an absolute minimum.
• Same performance for many years. AFM® outlasts all other filter media.
